INFORMATION ON THE
FACILITIES
Foyer On entering the foyer, the most impressionable aspect is the Bicentennial
Ceramic Mural erected on the centre wall.
This magnificent mural was designed and created by local artists John and
Maureen Morrison and is three-dimensional fired clay, depicting the history and
development of Roma and district. The sculptural elements of the 18m2 mural
range from a low of 25cm to a high of almost 50cm from the surface.
Approximately two tonnes of special clay mix was used in the construction, which
occupied the artist and his wife for around 350 hours with slab work, sculpture
and coil building, sectioning, hollowing and numbering each tile section.
The foyer itself is the centre of the entire building. The area is fully tiled
and features a striking panel ceiling, which incorporates lighting and sound
for the mural and the water element at the base of the mural.
Auditorium Across the foyer to the left is the Auditorium, the area for theatrical
performances or cultural functions.
The dimensions of the Auditorium are as follows:
|
Main Auditorium floor area |
370 m2 |
|
Additional areas- |
|
|
|
Northern Side |
30 m2 |
|
|
Southern Side |
50 m2 |
|
TOTAL FLOOR AREA |
450 m2 |
The area has a seating capacity of 500 with the ability to expand by opening the
Ernest Brock Function Room.
A prominent feature of the Auditorium is the timber, which is local cypress pine
treated with a gloss varnish finish. The timber used for the floor and stage is
brush box.
The stage is 11 metres wide by 15 metres long with an 11 metre opening, having
the ability to cater for full scale productions. The stage is equipped with
lighting facilities and a Yamaha grand piano of polished ebony is located on
the stage area.
Ernest Brock Function
Room The Ernest Brock Function room adjoins the Auditorium (by means of a dividing
screen) and has an area of approximately 300m2 with the ability to hold almost
350 people. The room is used for a variety
of functions with seminars and workshops being
very popular. Also situated
in this room is an upright piano.
A duel kitchen/bar has also been provided to service both the Auditorium and
Ernest Brock Function room, allowing the two areas to be operated as a whole or
individually, depending on the function being held.
Administration
Centre The Roma Town Council Administration and Council Chambers are located in the
centre, as it was Council's original idea that the administration of the Centre
be effectively controlled from within. Council provides officers to oversee the
organization and planning of particular functions and to assist with setting up
and enquiries.
The Roma Town Council holds a liquor licence, which covers private functions
held in the centre. For public functions, however, the hirer must obtain their
own licence.
For large functions, parking is available at the rear of the centre on a bitumen
area. |
